Self-love isn’t totally about knowing that you’re beautiful or intelligent or special. It’s about loving yourself despite not feeling that you’re any of those things.

The question is how to keep loving yourself when you’re feeling that low?

That is the question.

Maybe there is a difference between thinking and knowing where thoughts are as temporary as feelings and knowledge is a definite decision until you consciously decide to change it.

Yeah. I guess so.

You have definitely hit the nail on the head – that’s actually a really useful way to look at it!

You just perfectly described what the Tibetans call “Buddha Nature” — the spark of pure love and wisdom in the heart of every person, no matter how obscured it may be by one’s conscious mental state. Depression, anger, fear, despondency, envy and greed can’t tarnish it. But I don’t see it as a purely Buddhist notion…it’s always there and it’s indestructible whether or not you sit around in the lotus position for hours on end. It’s the true essence of everyone.

I find that the rougher edges of a personality allow people to latch on! It makes you real not broken.
