I’m not really certain which is more tragic: loving someone who does not love you back or loving someone but not loving yourself.

In thinking further on this thought … what’s sad to me is someone who does not love themselves, fails to see a deeper love another has for them, and thus is incapable of reciprocating.

I have thought about this and loving yourself is critical to having a relationship. It seems to me that without that any relationship will be one sided. Initially other people take you at your own evaluation. I also think that if you don’t love yourself you end up in a one sided relationships leading to abuse. It’s women who have no self worth who end up being abused and stay in it. (too much?).

Definitely the second. If you love yourself you have hope of finding someone else who does also. If you don’t you never will.

I say not loving yourself, cause you can’t control someone else’s feelings towards you, but you should be able to “control” yours. “I must learn to love myself before I ask others to love me”.
